Gloria and the Doctors (Gloria Turrini, Simone Scifoni, and Riccardo Ferrini)
are names now well-known and highly regarded among industry professional within the Italian music scene.
Defying current trends, and starting from the roots of the Blues, they allow their musical journey to be infused with other sounds of Black musical origin—traditional jazz, gospel, blues, and funk.
One thing is certain: the powerful, soulful tones of Gloria Turrini’s alto voice—
enriched by her strong, vibrant personality—bring the music of the past back
to life.
They do so through an energetic and moving performance that showcases
a dynamic range spanning from the sweetest, most romantic ballads to the
most hypnotic grooves of blues and funk. It is no coincidence that, throughout
her career, many great Italian and international musicians have sought out
her talents and her incredible voice.
Andy J Forest, Andrea Mingardi, Max Gazzè, Giuliano Palma, and Jackie Allen— to name just a few.
Scifoni and Ferrini have pursued professional paths of a similar caliber.
The former—a pianist and multi-instrumentalist active on the European blues
scene for over twenty years across various projects—boasts collaborations with
some of the greats, ranging from Roberto Ciotti to Corey Harris (for whom he
also served as a producer).
The latter—a highly esteemed guitarist with a career studded with collaborations
alongside the Honey Island Swamp Band, Andy J Forest, Jerry Dugger, Roberto
Luti, and many others—has, thanks to his distinctive personal style, garnered
a substantial following on both sides of the Atlantic.
This blend of characteristics makes Gloria and the Doctors a rare gem—an act
that consistently delivers a stellar performance during live shows.
All these fundamental experiences, accumulated over the years, converge in
*Dat Nola Trip*—an album recorded in New Orleans and released by Brutture Moderne (Ravenna, Italy) in August 2023—demonstrating the artists’ full artistic maturity.
Gloria Turrini (vocals and drums) and Riccardo Ferrini (electric and resonator
guitars)—the creative minds behind this beautiful album, which features nine
tracks (eight of them originals)—chose to enrich the recordings with the
assistance of some extraordinary musicians:
Andy J Forest (harmonica), Roberto Luti (guitar), Robert Snow (double bass),
and Rosalynn Deroos (clarinet).
Once again, the blues fuses with other genres—not only to reach a wider
audience but also to strike emotional chords that are otherwise difficult to access
—proving, if proof were ever needed, its interdisciplinary and interracial
significance. And once again, a woman spearheads an original and successful
project, confirming—in this instance as well—that only when the two “halves of
the apple” come together can they ripen into a truly tasty and succulent musical fruit.
In 2025 they published the album “Across the blues” for Bloos Records.
Critics characterize the album as a highly successful “back-to-basics” roots project. Instead of attempting to reinvent the genre, Across The Blues is celebrated for its deep respect for foundational acoustic templates, making it an essential, high-energy pick for traditional blues purists
ITALIANO
Gloria and the Doctors (Gloria Turrini, Simone Scifoni e Riccardo Ferrini)
Andy J Forest, Andrea Mingardi, Max Gazzè, Giuliano Palma, Jackie Allen
dell’oceano.
Questo è il mix di caratteristiche che fanno di Gloria and the Doctors una
Tutte queste fondamentali esperienze, accumulate negli anni, confluiscono in
“Dat Nola Trip”, registrato a New Orleans e pubblicato per Brutture Moderne
straordinari musicisti:
Andy J Forest (armonica), Roberto Luti (chitarra), Robert Snow
(contrabbasso), Rosalynn Deroos (clarinetto).
